The XK8 and XKR share a well-known weak point: the front soft top lock latch. When it wears or the mechanism binds, the top completes its travel but won't clamp down and seal against the windshield header. Owners usually notice wind noise at speed and water intrusion at the top corners of the windshield before the latch fails outright.

Because the latch is part of the roof's safety interlock, a failing one can also stop the top cycling at all — the car won't proceed if it can't confirm the roof is locked.
